"Solidarity with Idleeb" - support for Christian villages in Syria

Idleeb is a region that has been hailed in the media as the "last bastion of the revolution". It was in Idleeb that the consequences, which quickly overturned the previous ones, occurred in December 2024. Few people know that in Idleeb, within the Christian community and population, some churches are being built in our lives. This is where our Aleppian Franciscans are located, occupying three communities: the Catholic and Armenian ones in Al Kanaye and Al Jaqubiyeh, and the Orthodox one in Jdayde.

Our actions in the event of an incident following the earthquake, when one of the monks, Father Khoukaz went to Idleeb. Together with Father Lui, started the renovation of facilities that had been displaced during the war. Due to the complexity of the situation, which has not been previously reported, but till today togeheter with monks and villagers, who were able to rebuild seven houses destroyed by war and earthquake. Today, more families are returning to Idleeb, facing enormous hardship: joblessness, destroyed homes, and the much-needed suffering of relations with Muslims, including radicalized foreign fighters who have been separating from the villages. However, the fathers are working on dialogue and not only caring for the returning Christians but are even rebuilding two destroyed schools.

We visited the villages twice, but we continue to support the families' return. We recently donated funds for school supplies and textbooks for 80 children, as well as continued home reconstruction.
