Solidarity with Beirut - 2,5 years of our Mission in Lebanon
Time flies so fast - it's been over 2.5 years of our Mission in Lebanon, which we started right after the tragic explosion that took place in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020. Since then, we have been working intensively not only to help to restore flats, workplaces or provide emergency assistance - we have also started working with children and youth promoting cultural and educational activities (the project "First Step", "Wojtek Helps", "Gardens of Lebanon). Our entire long-term vision is based on comprehensive support, so that this first "humanitarian" aid will stimulate the community to act independently and build a better tomorrow for Lebanon.
In 2020, we hosted Archbishop G. Ryś, who supported us with his presence by spending time with the beneficiaries, our team and ordinary people met on the street. The story had its continuation, because thanks to this, part of the funds collected as part of the „Procession of the Three Kings” in Łódź will go to the needy in Beirut, and will allow us to continue the Mission.
Below in the attached PDF you can find more details and specific stories, which we present in two summaries: the overall one from the beginning of the Mission and for the year 2022.
So far, we have helped to restore 113 flats and 7 other facilities, reactivate or open 41 workshops, and help with food packages (nearly 200), stoves, baby formula (3,000 boxes) and cloths. We currently have 68 children in the "First Step" project, and our Team of Young Volunteers YBTE helps organize exhibitions, concerts, green projects and takes care of the girls from the "Beit al Fatat" house. We are expanding our activities as the situation in Lebanon is unfortunately deteriorating.
Behind the above numbers are specific people! We come back to them because they are extremely important to us. Some workshops were supported twice, seeing the potential for their development. Similarly, in some apartments we had to do extra work or provide people with furniture.
Families or individuals receiving help from us are aware that the funds come not only from big collections, but also from "ordinary" people like them. People in Poland who can share what they have with Brothers and Sisters of a beautiful but suffering country that is Lebanon.
Therefore, we would like to thank you for your help so far, in particular for smaller and regular payments, while encouraging you to continue supporting:
